Aging in Place Presentation...
Four long-time residents of College Hill, Mary Liz Colley, Mary Ann Dwyer, Danny Cohen, and Dave Hogenboom, will be leading a discussion of a concept called ”aging in place” that is designed to enable residents to stay in their own homes on the Hill while leading vibrant lives as they age. Like the 170 virtual “villages” established nationally since 2002, The Village of College Hill would be a professionally-run organization that would recruit volunteers to assist members with routine grocery shopping and errands, etc., and would recommend electricians, plumbers and roofers, perhaps with discounted rates. The Village would also offer social and cultural programs enhancing the critical sense of community. By solving many of the problems that cause older residents to leave their homes, the Village of College Hill would let them continue to enjoy the ambience of the neighborhood – the tree-lined streets, parks, river and the proximity to Lafayette College with its cultural and athletic programs.
